On Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 7:00 PM, the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church in collaboration with the AGBU Asbeds and Dr. Hayk Demoyan, the Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum and Institute (AGMI) in Yerevan, Armenia, will host a celebration for the Centennial of the First Republic. Dr. Demoyan, will present an illustrative lecture, The Year 1918: Sardarapat and the Battle for the Armenian Republic.
The temporary exhibition located at the Zorayan Museum of St. Leon (Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral, is dedicated to the centennial of the First Armenian Republic (1918-1920) and contains rare visual materials of the period. Panels under different titles show illustrations related to the Battle of Sardarapat, state symbols of the Armenian Church, and the American-Armenian community in the crucial period of the Armenian history. Different memorabilia and ephemera, as well as photos of well-known leaders and symbols of the Armenian Republic create a visual understanding of the struggle for the survival of newly born Armenian state.
