In a first-time collaboration, AGBU Innovation Studios and AGBU GenNext are pleased to announce “Youth Innovation Day,” which takes place on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian Cultural Center.  The admission-free event is designed to inspire and unite Armenian youth through a dynamic, innovative experience that promises to unlock creativity, encourage critical thinking, and unleash the imaginations of middle and high school students. According to AGBU Western Region Director Gohar Stambolyan, “The goal is to help new generations gain hands-on exposure to concepts, tools and skills that will help them to adapt and excel in a rapidly evolving world.”

From the hours of 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, participants will have free access to an array of interactive workshops and activities, led by industry experts across various fields.

Studio Experience

Participants can explore the cutting-edge makerspace through workshops in robotics, artificial intelligence, design, architecture, and more. The space is equipped with the highest standards of tools and technology, allowing attendees to create and innovate alongside industry leaders. Among the featured speakers, Asbed Kassis will guide young entrepreneurs through the initial phases of launching a startup, stressing the importance of defining and testing a product before its development. Raffy Mardirossian and Paul Matevosyan will offer insights into architecture through fabrication and hands-on design, while Nazareth Ekmekjian will delve into the realms of space exploration and robotics. Vahe Karimian will introduce the intriguing worlds of augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and the metaverse, providing a glimpse into the future of technology.

Culinary Workshop

Chef Ara Zada will lead a culinary workshop that marries gastronomy with cultural heritage, enhancing cooking skills and knowledge of traditional Armenian culinary practices. This session, titled “Taste of Tradition: The Art of Mastering Dolma,” aims to instill participants with a deep appreciation for the rich flavors and techniques that define Armenian cuisine.

Skill Development

Participants will gain essential skills needed to excel in today’s competitive landscape. A lineup of industry experts will cover a broad spectrum of vital competencies through interactive sessions, practical exercises, and insightful discussions. Edward Poghosyan will offer guidance on the path to top universities and Ivy League schools, while Kristine Sargsyan will reveal secrets to masterful speaking, helping attendees build self-confidence and enrich their brain power.

TEDEd Student Talks

In a special segment, “Innovation: Shaping Our Future,” student speakers, young innovators, and professionals will deliver motivational talks aimed at inspiring the next generation of game-changers. These TED-style talks, part of the world-renowned TED brand, will provide a platform for students to develop and share their ideas, thereby advancing a community of forward-thinkers dedicated to making a positive difference.

Engaging Parents and Youth

The event is designed not only for young participants but also for parents interested in the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Parents will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops and engage with experts, gaining valuable insights into how they can support their children’s educational journeys.

“Nare Avagyan, the educational programs manager of AGBU Western Region added, “This immersive and instructive day is a special opportunity for American-Armenian teens looking for new pathways to learning, growing and innovating that leverage their own unique talents and perspectives.  We are widening horizons for youth from across our diverse Armenian communities.”
