AGBU-AYA LA San Fernando and Pasadena-Glendale troops offer a unique opportunity for young Armenians to connect with their peers and their heritage while learning outdoor skills, engaging in service projects and participating in educational workshops and experiences. Being an AGBU Scout reinforces lifelong values and bonds ensuring a strong foundation for adulthood.

Outdoor Exploration & Community Service

In today’s world the need to connect with nature and community is more important than ever. AGBU Scouts explore the great outdoors in unique ways leveraging the beautiful Southern California landscape. From canoeing to hiking and more, our scouts stretch their abilities and self-confidence. Working together, scouts cooperate to meet outdoor challenges presented to them as a team.

AGBU Scouts not only learn how to camp and hike, they prioritize community service. By adopting diverse projects throughout the year— from organizing blood drives to assembling care packages and leading relief efforts— youth are encouraged to think globally and act locally. Not only do our Scouts proudly serve the Armenian communities they are from, but they also commit their time and effort to support initiatives in the local Los Angeles community.

Becoming an AGBU Scout means learning what kind of leader to be when. These binding principles have inspired us since the beginning, when our first troupes were formed in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria in the 1930s. Our Scout Leaders have worked their way through the ranks of the program and take care of young troops, meetings and activities. By accepting the responsibilities of troop leadership, Scouts are preparing themselves to be leaders throughout their lives.

Our Program

Scout groups meet weekly for “Havak” gatherings every Saturday at our two locations. The program runs for 10 months and includes two opportunities for overnight camping experiences. Occasionally the troupes also plan trips to Armenia and other exchange opportunities with global AGBU scouts.
