With inadequate government-funded benefits since Armenia's independence in 1991, the country's senior citizens continue to struggle with insufficient pensions and non-existent retirement funds as a cushion of security. Because not all elders have relatives to assist them with additional income, many are unable to afford everyday basics during this increasingly vulnerable stage of life.
Our three AGBU Senior Dining Centers, operated in partnership with the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, provide nutritious meals to those in need. Housed in the three AGBU Children's Centers, the centers also offer much-needed social stimulation. These joint facilities are the focus of a major capital improvement campaign.
