Senior Dining Centers

Bringing hearty meals and peace of mind

With inadequate government-funded benefits since Armenia's independence in 1991, the country's senior citizens continue to struggle with insufficient pensions and non-existent retirement funds as a cushion of security. Because not all elders have relatives to assist them with additional income, many are unable to afford everyday basics during this increasingly vulnerable stage of life.

Our three AGBU Senior Dining Centers, operated in partnership with the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, provide nutritious meals to those in need. Housed in the three AGBU Children's Centers, the centers also offer much-needed social stimulation. These joint facilities are the focus of a major capital improvement campaign.

FACT:

The current poverty line in Armenia is $103 USD per month and the average senior pension is only $77.05 USD.

Working for Community's Greater Good

Beneficiaries identified as living below the poverty line qualify for this free service.  At first they may be embarrassed to accept what they consider charity, but soon the center becomes more than a source of nutrition. They are also a safe space in which to share stories and make friends. When the pandemic was at its height, arrangements were made to receive food packages at home or assisted pick-up locations. See what some of our regular guests at the center have to say:

With your continued support, over 600 seniors will receive nutritious meals six days a week. Help bring peace of mind to these vulnerable community members.
