The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), in partnership with World Central Kitchen (WCK), successfully provided hot meals to families in the Altadena and Pasadena communities on January 29 and February 1. The two-day event, held at the AGBU Western Region site, not only offered much-needed support to residents but also uplifted local businesses affected by the recent Eaton Fire.

This collaboration is part of an ongoing partnership between AGBU and WCK, which has extended across the globe, including humanitarian efforts in Armenia and Lebanon in previous years. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, WCK is known for being first on the front lines during disasters, providing meals to those in crisis and supporting local food systems.

The event saw overwhelming community support, with public figures and local leaders in attendance, including California District 41 Assemblymember John Harabedian, Grammy-nominated artist Sebu Simonian, whose home was lost in the Eaton Fire, and renowned comedian Mary Basmadjian. Their presence highlighted the resilience and unity of the community as everyone came together to support those affected. The initiative also provided a platform for local restaurants impacted by the LA wildfires, ensuring they could continue serving their neighbors despite recent hardships.

“It was inspiring to see so many people from different walks of life come together—neighbors, volunteers, and community leaders—to support local businesses and engage in meaningful conversations over a warm meal,” said Gohar Stambolyan, Director of the AGBU Western Region. “AGBU deeply values our partnership with WCK, and we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on initiatives that provide relief, strengthen communities, and bring people together in times of need.”

This partnership between AGBU and WCK continues to demonstrate the power of collective action, reinstating the need for both families and local businesses to receive the support necessary to rebuild and move forward.
