On Thursday, October 11, 2018 author Laura Michael visited AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School’s 2nd through 5th grade students for a special book reading of “Under the Light of the Moon.” The children’s book, which is set in 1924 at the end of the Armenian Genocide, follows a character named Lucine, who has found safety at an orphanage in Greece.

Michael used a presentation slideshow to explain the meaning behind the book and the characters that bring the story to life. The goal of the book is to start early education on the Armenian Genocide through a story that brings light to a very dark time in Armenian history.

The book reading was a timely event as the AGBU Western District is in the midst of a children’s book club writing contest featuring Michael’s book. The students took interest in the story and many purchased the book in order to read and participate in the book contest.
