AGBU Western District board member Dr. Shahan Yacoubian, his brother Dr. Stephan Yacoubian and many other volunteer doctors made their way to Artsakh on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 to join Armenia Fund’s Medical Mission to Noyemberyan Hospital. The joint medical mission with Armenia Fund and Adventist Health Glendale, which has been an ongoing project since 2015, sends volunteer doctors to the Noyemberyan Hospital, in Armenia’s northeastern Tavush Region, to provide a broad range of free medical services, including surgeries, medications, and critically needed medical equipment and supplies.

Dr. Shahan Yacoubian and Dr. Stephan Yacoubian are orthopedic surgeons who specialize in total knee replacement surgery. During their visit to Noyemberyan Hospital, they performed several total knee replacement surgeries for patients in need as this procedure is not currently available in the region. They also assisted a resident doctor, Dr. Karen Davtyan, in mastering arthroscopic knee surgery.

The medical mission is aimed to solve the regions lack of adequate access to healthcare and medical services such as surgeries. The mission has drastically improved the Noyemberyan Hospital’s technical infrastructure and capabilities.
