On Monday, April 16, 2018, the 112th anniversary of the founding of the AGBU (founded in Cairo, Egypt, on April 15, 1906) was celebrated with two ceremonies at the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School’s Aghajanian Hall.

The first ceremony took place in the morning with the pre-school and elementary classes. With the direction of music teacher, Arus Andreasian, the students sang the anthem dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the AGBU, after which the Armenian language teacher, Sevan Ter-Petrosyan made the opening speech. Following the opening speech, a first-grade teacher, pastor and current parent, Carolin Gonialian, delivered the message of the day with an impressive performance by her students.

The second ceremony took place mid-day with students from 6th-12th grade. The opening speech was made by the Head of the Armenian Department, Mr. Hratch Sepetjian, followed by a video about the AGBU. After watching the short video about the AGBU’s activities, principal Arpi Avanesian presented the keynote speaker of the day, AGBU Western District Chair, Talin Yacoubian. Yacoubian spoke about her experiences with the AGBU and the importance of helping support the Armenians and the church materially and morally.

Sixteen students from the 9th grade made a presentation on the AGBU organization posing as all the past and present AGBU presidents and showcased all the benevolent work AGBU is involved with today. The performance ended with the AGBU march.
