Amy Ashvanian Appointed Judge to the California Superior Court

Screen Shot 2018-03-14 at 12.54.05 PMArmenuhi A. Ashvanian, 46, of Glendale, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Ashvanian has served as deputy district attorney at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office since 2005 and has been an adjunct assistant professor at the Glendale University College of Law since 2014. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge George Genesta.

In 2016, Amy Ashvanian signed on to be the head coach of the AGBU MHS Mock Trial Program, which was established by AGBU Western District board member Lucy Varpetian. “Over the course of 2 years, Ashvanian was able to inspire and, with her daily curriculum, make a huge difference in the lives of her students,” said Varpetian. In 2017, the AGBU MHS Mock Trial Program students were able to compete in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial Competition and made it to the semi-finals.

Ashvanian has also participated as a guest lecturer on domestic violence issues at AGBU Hye Geen events. Hye Geen founder and chair woman, Sona Yacoubian along with founding member Peter Darakjian attended Ashvanian’s enrobing ceremony on March 8. A group of her mock trial program students were also in attendance as well. His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian started the ceremony with a prayer.

AGBU Western District would like to congratulate Amy Ashvanian on her great accomplishment and wish her a successful  judgeship for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
