10.7.16 AGBU WDC Hosts Scouts Appreciation Dinner

On Friday, October 7th AGBU Western District held a Scouts Appreciation Dinner at the Home of WDC Board Member Dr. Shahan and Nellie Yacoubian. Over 60 people, including almost 40 scout leaders, chapter chairs and WDC members gathered for a fun and informal evening of food, conversation, and comradery.

Since its inception in the 1940’s the scouting program has been an integral part of AGBU. This program is the single most successful program that breeds future leaders for AGBU. This year, the Los Angeles San Fernando Valley Scouts and the Glendale Pasadena Chapter Scouts were especially busy, participating in multiple community events, taking a number of camping trips, organizing community service projects and for the Glendale Pasadena Scouts, traveling to Armenia for a two week camping trip at Camp Antranik.

The scouting leadership, who volunteers their time on a weekly basis, is responsible for all of these accomplishments and the Western District Committee wanted to thank them and the chapters for shepherding this worthy program.

In conversation with WDC Board member and Past Scout Master, “Kouyr” Tzoler Sagherian, “Yeghpair” Andrew I., an Eagle Scout and LA/SFV Scout Leader stated “I don’t look at this as volunteering, I feel like it is my duty to pay forward what I was taught and given as a cub scout.” After dinner, Talin Yacoubian, Esq. initiated the unofficial program of the night, with opening remarks reminiscing of her time and experiences as an AGBU Cub Master, she sincerely thanked the leaders for their dedication and hard work. Kouyr Tzoler, who has been involved with scouts since 1989 and continues to help advise the Pasadena chapter, followed with generous remarks to the group of leaders who used to be her cub scouts and girl scouts. Lastly, Shahan Yacoubian and chapter chairs, Hrag Ohannessian and Hrant Vartzbedian, shared their kind words and extended their gratitude as board members and parents of scouts who function under the leadership of this group.

A special thanks to Dr. Shahan and Mrs. Nellie Yacoubian for opening their doors to the Scouts and the Board, and hosting this wonderful evening.
