9.13.16 AGBU WDC Armenian Celebration Night Hosted by the LA Sparks

The AGBU Western District was invited to participate in the 4th Annual Armenian Celebration Night hosted by the Los Angeles Sparks which took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. AGBU had just under 50 athletes present, ages six to 12, from the Los Angeles-San Fernando Valley and Pasadena-Glendale chapters as well as AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School in Canoga Park. The kids filled the Staples Center basketball court in sheer excitement, started warming up and played on one of the most famous basketball courts in the nation. They were overflowing with energy and joy while soaking up every moment of this extraordinary opportunity.

The sparkle in their eyes was undeniable as they walked onto the court, never imagining they would play on the same court as many of their idols. Family and friends of the players excitedly cheered for the kids as they teamed up to play friendly games against each other. After playing both half court and full court games, the AGBU athletes were thrilled to see the professionals take the court. They were allowed to watch the Los Angeles Sparks practice, play, and successfully win the game against the Phoenix Mercury. Gilbert Gevorgian, Los Angeles-San Fernando Valley Chapter Athletics Committee Chair, was thrilled for this opportunity, “It was incredible, everyone had a great evening.”

The Western District Committee (WDC) played a large role in organizing this exciting event for the youth. In attendance was Talin Yacoubian, Western District Committee Chair, “The WDC is thankful to the Los Angeles Sparks organization for providing our young athletes with such a unique and joyful experience. The smiles and exuberance on each face was certain affirmation of the success of the event.”
