Message from the Chair of AGBU Western District

April 13, 2016

Every April, more than any other time of the year, our community pays its respects to our martyrs. This April our loss has multiplied, the danger to and the displacement of the Syrian Armenians continues and we have been shocked and horrified by the brutal Azeri Aggression in Artsakh. Each day we are confronted with the loss of innocent lives. Here we must continue to do our utmost to meet the needs of all of our people, by attending, supporting and involving ourselves in those events slated to help our people and commemorate our martyrs.

This week I am especially proud of our scouts who will be taking such an important role in multiple April 24 commemorations including the City of Glendale, the City of Pasadena, the City of Montebello, and the Rally for Justice in the City of Los Angeles.

On Sunday April 3rd, members of the AGBU Pasadena community gathered for the Annual Sports Committee Breakfast.

Over 400 people attended the event including Athletes, Scouts, friends and family. Among those in attendance were the AGBU-WDC Chair Talin Yacoubian-Babikian, the WDC Board, as well as, the Pasadena and Valley Chapter Chairs and Board members.

The open buffet was filled with delicious food, including “Soujouk & Havgeet” and “Mammounyeh.” Children were entertained with carnival style games and prizes were distributed while guests were honored and raffles were drawn during the main event.

As an annual tradition, this year the Sports Committee honored two AGBU members, for their continuous support for both programs (Scouts & Athletics). Silva Nazaretian, former WDC Member, was honored as well as Varant Tabakian, former Scout, basketball player & Coach for AGBU.

The Breakfast Fundraiser symbolized the true spirit of the AGBU family where the Athletics Committee, Scouts, and volunteers teamed up to take on various tasks to create a delightful atmosphere for the event.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Athletics Committee as well as AGBU Pasadena Scout’s upcoming pilgrimage to Armenia this summer.
